Let’s not waste any time catching up then. I’ve missed y’all & I hope everything’s going the best it can.

If you’re here, I greatly appreciate you taking out the time to stop, and interact with this.

After many years, I finally set up my gear for me to just have a free thought session on the mic.

I didn’t get too deep into everything but here’s some context:

Many chapters of life are getting resolved at the same time.

Last year I decided to “bet on myself.”

I didn’t know exactly what that would mean but I was going to stick to it.

There were a few things I wanted specifically. I only know bc I wrote about them in my journal countless times.

Trust me, that was super helpful when I was looking back at many low points last winter.

I wanted to: create more, be challenged to grow, and learn to trust the process.

And that’s exactly what I’m doing now.

I left my Broadcast Director job to become a Marketing Producer.

It was tough since I was the 1st Black Woman to be a Director at the station.

However, I’ve already opened the doors for others in just 3 years.

Plus, the Associate Director program I help pilot has turned into a succession of trainees promoted to full time Directors.

That allowed me to trust that I was making the right decision to meet where I wanted to go.

Snapped this before directing the late news on International Women’s Day. Didn’t know they would give my offer for Marketing Producer the very next day.

In just 2 months on the Marketing Department, I’m being challenged to grow in all areas of my skills.

Working freelance while directing helped me get my feet into the video production and photography field, but now I’m expanding with writing and motion graphics. Of course I bring my camera everywhere and we all love the candid style pics.

Thats never gonna change. Have a look at what I’ve shot so far. Real TUF! aren’t they?

I’m creating more. I mean we’re here aren’t we?

Photos and video are a staple to my life. Between shooting my sister’s basketball games on tapes and filling up a roll on a disposable every few months as a kid, I was always with some of camera. My parents would give me a digital camera for a high school graduation gift to complete their yearly tradition: “Here’s a camera. Take pictures of your friends, teachers, everything your last week of school to remember it.”

I found that camera this week when digging though my old gear.

When Obama visited Norfolk State in 2012, I was maybe 10 feet from the podium with this camera.

12 years of that camera tradition turned into 5 different DSLRs. Then launched (Exposed) EXPSD - our creative service company specializing in high end candid style portraits. The clients have branded the look as “Black Pinterest.” We’ve watched couples become families capturing their proposals to new arrivals!

Our natural energetic chemistry that allows everyone to forget cameras are even there.

The Browns were the first wedding I shot portraits for in over 3 years - Didn’t miss a beat.

It’s tough to think of what “success” will look like. The world can flash so many different things in our face to go after.

There’s so many avenues and paths. Find the one that feels like it leads you back to yourself.

If anything, I’m grateful that I’ve proven myself wrong. That’s all that matters.

What I defined as “success” has changed as I have changed. As long as I continue to create, grow, and trust the Larger Forces… that’s all the success I need. Here’s to whatever’s next.

If there’s something that you take away from this or means something to you, don’t hesitate to let me know.
